analyticsTechnical Signals & Strategy Qualification
What Are Technical Signals?
Technical signals are data points ManiBot collects to evaluate whether a stock qualifies for a given trading strategy. These signals help the scanner and AI assistant make smarter recommendations.
Per-Stock Signals
- RSI (Relative Strength Index): Measures momentum on a 0-100 scale. Below 30 = oversold, above 70 = overbought
- ATR Percentile: How volatile the stock is compared to its historical average. Higher = more volatile
- Relative Volume: Today's volume vs average. 2.0x = twice normal volume
- Bollinger Band Width: Measures price squeeze. Narrow bands often precede breakouts
- Sector Ranking: How strong the stock's sector is performing relative to the market
- IV Rank: Current implied volatility vs 52-week range (for options strategies)
Market-Wide Regime Signals
- SPY vs 50/200 DMA: Is the market above or below key moving averages? "ABOVE" favors bullish strategies
- VIX Regime: Market fear level. LOW (<15) = calm, ELEVATED (15-25) = caution, HIGH (>25) = fear
How Strategy Qualification Works
Each strategy type has specific signal requirements. When you run the scanner or ask the AI about a stock, ManiBot checks if the stock's signals match the strategy:
Momentum Strategies
RSI 50-75, ATR >50%, SPY above 50 DMA. Best in strong trending markets.
Breakout Strategies
RSI 45-70, ATR >60%, Volume >1.5x average. Captures moves through resistance.
Mean-Reversion
RSI 20-40 (oversold), ATR >40%. Buys dips expecting bounce back to average.
Squeeze Strategies
RSI 40-65, short interest >15%, days to cover >3. Short squeeze potential plays.
Qualification Scores
Stocks receive a qualification score from 0-100 based on how well their signals match the strategy:
- 80-100 (Strong): Excellent match - most criteria met with bonus signals
- 70-79 (Good): Solid match - qualifies for the strategy
- 50-69 (Weak): Partial match - some criteria met but not ideal
- Below 50: Poor match - does not qualify for strategy
lightbulbUsing Signals Effectively
Ask the AI chatbot: "Does AAPL qualify for a momentum breakout strategy?" to get a detailed signal analysis with specific reasons why a stock does or doesn't fit your chosen strategy.
